Congratulations Sylvia Best Short Film Winner @ the Sydney Indie 2018, now Oscar Qualified!
Hello Filmmakers & Film Fans!
As the Official Selections announcement date approaches for the Sydney Indie Film Festival 2019, we are very happy to share the exciting news that “SYLVIA” short film directed by Richard Prendergast, winner of the BEST FILM AWARD at the Sydney Indie 2018 in the short films category, it is now qualified for consideration for the Academy Awards 2020, after been one of only 10 films selected to screen at the Manhattan Short Film Festival.
As filmmakers ourselves, we love sharing stories like this, as we never know how in one year we can be completing a film project and submitting to film festivals, and the next year writing an entry form for the Oscars, “Unbelievable” says producer Rachel Prendergast.
Yes, dreams come true, with persistence and hard work, they do come true!

One of the things we love about this short interview with the “Sylvia” team at the Manhattan Short FF it’s how they mention they were asked to edit down the film, and they followed the advice; which is a very hard thing to ask a filmmaker as we understand every minute in the film is somehow precious from the filmmaker’s point of view, but as the festival, watching from the audience’s perspective, very often we see that many films would be better if edited down.

It was absolutely beautiful experience to see the audience at the Sydney Indie enjoying “Sylvia”, it brought many to tears!
The 22nd Annual MANHATTAN SHORT Film Festival will screen in over 400 cities worldwide from September 26 to October 6, 2019.
