Hello everybody!

It has been long time since we posted!

We know that 2020 has been quite something for everybody.

Words can’t even describe the 2020 experience and because everything that we have ever done comes entirely from the heart, but our hearts have been crushed, we haven’t had much to say or haven’t figured out how to express ourselves in the authentic way that we are proud to be.

We appreciate all the messages from filmmakers and audience enquiring about the Sydney Indie 2020 dates, while we’ve been trying to reply to everybody individually, we realize that it is the time to share a more formal 2020 announcement.

The borders within most Australian states have been closed since earlier in the year.

And with the uncertainties of the world, and uncertainties regarding the opening between borders and end of lockdowns, and many other reasons, we couldn’t schedule dates for the Sydney Indie Film Festival 2020.

While we’ve been waiting and waiting while trying to figure out so many answers, by now it is more than clear that we can’t have a 2020 Edition of the Sydney Indie Film Festival, as it takes the whole year to prepare for the festival, and by now it’s 100% clear that is not safe to schedule even a smaller event, for many reasons, including that key members cannot leave Melbourne for any pre production meetings and preparations in Sydney, and we still don’t know how governments could call on further lockdowns at any minute, and many many reasons.

Some of our key team members are living in Melbourne and experiencing the most extreme lockdown rules throughout the year that hit even more absurd since the 2nd of August.

Melbourne doesn’t seem like part of beautiful Australia.

Living in Melbourne is like another planet, with mandatory masks, Max 5km allowed from home for no longer than 2 hours, 9pm curfew just eased from 8pm curfew, etc.

So here we are,

For whoever doesn’t know that people in Melbourne are basically living under home arrest,

The Submissions for the 2nd Edition of the Melbourne Indie Film Festival are now open!

Following the amazing success of the Sydney Indie Film Festival, we are excited to bring the celebration of independent filmmaking to Melbourne, launching the Melbourne Indie Film Festival 2020!

The Melbourne Indie Film Festival will take place from 16th – 24th March 2020 at the Screening Space at The Post St Kilda, in the heart of Melbourne’s electrifying world famous St Kilda!

The Post St Kilda offers an unique cultural experience in a trendy space while supporting music, performances, and all forms of arts in the community.

The festival has been set-up to showcase new and creative works by emerging local and international artists, and for those who have an admiration for cinema and the craft of filmmaking.

Often referred to as the Arts capital of the country, Melbourne prides itself on its rich and diverse artistic culture, fully embracing all forms of expressive arts from street art to the Masters, theatre, fashion, dance, music and films.

Experience the stimulating fusion of Melbourne’s creative energy with the uniqueness of The Post St Kilda, as the Melbourne Indie Film Festival aims to bring entertainment and inspiration to its audience by showcasing stories and issues from around the world through the impact of great cinema.

Jan is a brave but impulsive young woman, and when she acts out of desperation to save a little girl’s life, her actions bring consequences upon the whole camp. What is the price for a meal when women and children are starving? Daily Bread is based on an excerpt from the autobiography Fifty Years of Silence by Jan Ruff O’Herne, which was published by Random House and has been translated into five languages.

Synopsis: “When the impermanence of life and land collide, what remains inside the heart and soul of a man”

Ingo Hansen returns to the desert opal mining town where he grew up, struggling with his health and searching for answers.   At a crossroads in his life, he seeks comfort in reminiscing the impact of the harsh landscapes and crazy adventures he had in Andamooka - one of the most remote places in South Australia.

Ingo soon realises that the thriving outback town he once loved is now bleak and it mercilessly parallels his own impermanence; the harsh winds of life blow not just on the desert but also inside his heart.  In its glory days Andamooka had over 3000 residents, but now the opal has dried up and it is a former shadow of itself – with a total population of 316.

It takes a certain type of person to love a place like this, with the isolation and the desolation.  Walking through the cemetery Ingo reflects on the grim truths of his reality, and how strange it is to know every body that lies beneath him in the dust.  As in life, both the once beautiful landscape and the once promising future he faced are slowly fading way and the story is unforgiving.

Den and Angel, though they are disabled, want to contribute towards the betterment of society by overcoming their physical challenges. As they come of age, they must learn to cope with abuse and bullying. Their lives intersect with Raina, who is struggling to further her research.

Raina’s philosophy and life change while she is in India, where she is touched by the beauty of the culture and the stories of children with disabilities. Through her experience, she understands that balance of mind, body, and soul are vital in realizing the true value of life. Disability is a perception; ability is what we believe.

Synopsis: Stuart Iredale was born with Fragile X during the 1950s; a time when the disability was little know. He was misdiagnosed with mental illness and spent 40 years of his life in psychiatric hospitals where he was misunderstood, drugged and abused

At 60 years old Stuart was correctly diagnosed with Fragile X. He now has a set of processes and care that provide him with an entirely different quality of life.

Today he has shown progress towards recovery from years of mistreatment and responds to music therapy by dancing.
